Mix Buddy

A personalized mobile mixology assistant designed for cocktail enthusiasts to easily manage their home bar and discover tailored recipes.

Overview

A personalized mobile application designed for home bartending and cocktail enthusiasts. The app acts as a digital mixology assistant, allowing users to manage their home bar inventory, discover customized recipes based on available ingredients, customize flavor profiles, and consult with an AI assistant for ingredient substitutions.

The Challenge

  • The “Missing Ingredient” Friction: Users find a recipe they love
but realize they are missing one specific liqueur or fruit, leading to frustration and abandonment.

  • Onboarding Friction vs. Value: Balancing the need to collect user flavor preferences and bar inventory without making the initial setup feel tedious.

  • Complex Metrics Tracking: Presenting multi layered information (cocktail ratings, difficulty, preparation time, and exact volumetric scaling) in a clean, non intimidating interface.

Design Process

Research & Insights

  • Hyper Personalization Matters: Cocktail preferences are deeply subjective (ranging from sour and spicy to sweet or bitter). A generic list of recipes fails to engage users compared to a tailored feed.

  • The “What Can I Make Right Now?” Intent: The primary trigger for opening the app is transactional users want to see immediate results based on what is already sitting on their bar shelf.

  • Real Time Guidance: When mixing a drink, users operate hands-on. The step by step execution process needs clear visual confirmation and zero clutter.
